ここのところUK発の音楽やカルチャーを題材にした映画のリバイバル上映が活発です。

今年春に上映された、1970年代にイングランド北部で起きたクラブ・カルチャー・ムーブメント『ノーザン・ソウル』を描いた『Northern Soul』(2014)。

今年夏から順次全国公開されている、THE WHOが1969年にリリースしたアルバム『トミー』を映像化したロック・オペラ『TOMMY』(1975 / 京都ではみなみ会館にてまもなく公開)。

そして遂にあの映画も劇場公開！

 

公開から40年経った今、デジタルリマスター版で！！

あの映画とは、そう世界中の若者達にモッズ・ブームを巻き起こしたモッズ映画、青春映画の金字塔、『さらば青春の光/ Quadrophenia』(1979)。

 

10月から順次全国公開(京都ではこちらもみなみ会館でまもなく公開)。

は僕のような者が語るとMODSに造詣が深い方々にお叱りを受けそうなのでWikipedia参照で。

この映画は1973年にリリースされたザ・フーのアルバム『四重人格』が原案とされ脚本にはピート・タウンゼントが参加、音楽はザ・フーが担当、ポリスのスティングも出演しています。

 

音楽のみならず、ファッション、カルチャー、ライフスタイルにまで大きな影響を与えたモッズ・ムーブメント。

僕も若い頃は何度となくDVDやビデオで見たこの映画、劇場では未見なので絶対見に行きます！！

最近ではモッズ・ファッションに身を固めた若者を見かける事は少なくなりましたが、これを機に再来か！

One of the well-known movies “Quadrophenia” is coming back to theaters for the first time in 40 years!

Recently, revival screening of movies on UK music and culture is very exciting in movie industry – “Northern Soul” (2014) depicting the club culture movement “Northern Soul” that occurred in northern England in the 1970s was showing this spring. Also, the rock opera “TOMMY”,which was made into visualization from the album “Tommy” released by THE WHO in 1969, has been playing theaters since this summer. (It will be soon at Minami Kaikan in Kyoto!)

Finally, “Quadrophenia”(1979) is coming back to theaters! 40 years after the release, it will be played on digital remastering version! As we know, the movie made a boom of “Mods (Modernism)” in young generation at that time. (We will be able to watch Quadrophenia at Minami Kaikan in Kyoto as well!)

Quadrophenia is originally based on THE WHO’s album “Quarter Personality” released in 1973, Pete Townshend who is the guitarist in THE WHO joined as a scripter. THE WHO was in charge of music and Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner CBE, known as Sting from rock band the Police is acting in this movie.

“Mods” movement had a great influence, not only music, it’s related to fashion, culture and lifestyle.
I watched this movie on DVD or Video again and again when I was younger so I have never seen it in a theater! Nowadays, I don’t see Mod styles any more but I am looking forward to seeing the styles on the streets again.
